Becoming a phone addict

Phantom vibration syndrome or phantom ringing syndrome is the perception that one’s mobile phone is vibrating or ringing when it is not ringing.

Never thought that there could be such a thing as Phantom Vibration. For the last few weeks, I been experiencing such. When I have my phone in the pocket, I will have this “sensation” that it is vibrating and I will check it. Most of the time, nothing… No calls, no messages. Instead it lead me to check on the different social media apps. I hate to say this but I think I have become a phone addict. A phone addict compulsively checking on my phone, hoping for that dose of dopamine updates.

The big challenge here is how do you overcome this when you need to use social media for work. If you are trying to start a small business, social media is one of the way you try to reach out to your audiences. Here are a few ways I’m thinking about, if you know more, I love to hear about it.

  1. Keep phone in bag, instead of pocket: this is to help with my compulsive checking
  2. Plan the marketing materials that I aimed to share ahead so that each time, the objective of using the social media is clear
  3. Set a time limit for usage as well
  4. Focus on a single social media channel? This is 50/50 for me. Because the audience could be anywhere, so a need to dive into the data and see where they are.

Are you a phone addict trying to find a balance? Love to hear you thoughts too.
