Facebook is adding more features to Pages. With 45 million businesses using it, you can “feel” the importance of your brand or product having a Facebook Page.
Today we’re adding new features to Pages to make it easier for the more than 45 million active businesses on Facebook to highlight important information and reach their goals. The new features for Pages reflect our belief that no matter if you’re a plumbing company, a flower shop, a non-profit or a brand, your Page should house the information people are looking for, help you communicate with your customers and support your unique goals.
See SMRT Feedback for example. They started off with just a Facebook page, Their Facebook page has very wide reach and quite influential in Singapore. The same can be true for a product or a brand. Now they have a site
In fact, I believe and it might already be happening is that there is no longer a need to have an website anymore ie. If you are looking to sell a product, you just set up a Facebook page and you are good to go.
- No need to worry about maintaining a website
- No need to think of site design
- No need to worry about hosting issues or even storage issues
Because if you can use Facebook, you can maintain a Facebook page.
Soi55 is another good example.
They have Instagram, they have a Facebook page and they are doing great. They have recently open a 2nd store at Cathay. They do not have a website.
Of course, with advantages come disadvantages. The most prominent problem is that the business is “someone else platform” if Facebook thinks that the business has done something wrong, they can take down your page.
However, if you are running a legit business. I believe you are unlikely to meet with any problems. Alternatively, Facebook page can also be a great place to test of ideas. And if the idea takes place, it’s not too late to have a site.
Lastly, I believe that to start selling something online is even easier than before. I would recommend the following
- a Facebook page (free)
- a Instagram account (free)
- a google app email ($5 per month)
- payment (Paylah if you are in SG otherwise PayPal)
And you are good to go. What are you going to sell next?
