  2. Alibaba: Alibaba is said to buy back 1/3 of Alipay, the clone of Paypal in China. Alipay was spun off in 2011.
  3. Facebook: The company just had their developer’s conference, F8 and these are the 5 key announcements we need to know. 1. The company has committed that all major bugs in FB products will be fixed within 48 hours. 2. Users will now have more control over privacy setting when signing up with 3rd-party apps using FB login. 3. Users can now try out new apps “anonymously”, meaning no longer will you have to provide all info up front just to test out an app that you might delete later. 4. The company also introduced a mobile ad network named “Audience Network”, your app would need to have a FB app id to use it. And finally, 5. a new feature call AppLinks to bring back the ease of sharing a URL on the web to links within apps.
  4. Foxconn: Yesterday, the company just threw $2.2M into a microblogging startup mig33. Today, they announced that they will be partnering with HP to tackle the growing market for low-cost servers in cloud data centers. No details were mentioned
  5. Google: Google has more than 30M users for their Google Apps for Education service. They used to mined their data so that the company can served these users targeted ads. Today, the company announced they will stop doing that.
  6. Google: After the success of Office for iPad by Microsoft, Google released standalone iOS apps for Docs and Spreadsheets. The apps offers users the ability to create, edit and collaborate on documents and spreadsheets right from all iOS devices. Oh and these apps are free.
  7. Hongkong: Taxiwise, the Hong Kong-based startup that connects passengers with cabbies, has been acquired by another company Ikky, that has a mobile app that allows users to make hotels and restaurants reservations in the city. No price was stated.
  8. LG: LG is said to release G3 at the end of May. It will come with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, a 2.5GHz quad-core processor, 3GB RAM, a 13MP camera and a 5.5” QHD screen, which is the main attraction of the device. They are targeting to sell 10M units.
  9. Motorola: Motorola will launch a new smartphone on May 13 for UK and India. The rumour device is said to have a 4.3-inch screen and may include 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 5MP camera and 1,900mAh battery.
  10. Snapchat: Self-destructing photo-sharer Snapchat has been updated today with a couple of major new features. The major highlight is that it allows you to video call a friend at a moment’s notice just by a simple press and hold on the chat head. This video is worth a watch.
