Amazon: The e-commerce company has reported a US$19.7 billion in quarterly revenue, which is a 23 percent year-on-year increase but the firm is still not making a profit. It has just broken even!
Apple: Despite high costs, Apple has been seeing a growth in sales numbers in Vietnam. Why? Some Vietnamese need it to “feel more confident when hanging out with friends and colleagues”. This shows just how powerful a brand can be, when associated with ideas and feelings.
Google: Once again, here’s a gentle reminder to be cautious when downloading apps from Google Play. A mobile security company has found six apps that have been mining Bitcoins on your phone – secretly! So if your phone is always running out of battery, you might want to blame those apps. The good news is that Google has pulled them down.
Facebook: The company now wants to be associated with “Breaking News”. Facebook has launched FB Newswire, a service that aggregates newsworthy content shared publicly on Facebook by individuals and organisations across the world for journalists to use in their reporting.
Facebook: Aside from wanting to be involved in breaking news, Facebook also wants your daily activity data. They just brought a fitness tracking app, Moves. No price was mentioned but a specific sentence is worth noting – “there are no plans to change that or commingle data with Facebook.” Really?
Google: Rumours about Google killing Google+ were abound after the Vic Gundotran the guy in charge of Google+ left the company yesterday. Personally, I would not buy into this rumour because the communities over in Google+ ARE amazing or maybe I’m just biased because I’m active there.
Microsoft: The Microsoft Surface Mini tablet has been reported to be coming soon. There are not many images but it’s good news for people who are considering alternatives to iPad mini.
WeChat: An ad from WeChat has featured a “Mark Zuckerberg” seeking help from a therapist because his friends are un-friending him. Kinda lame, don’t you think?
Xiaomi: Xiaomi is said to be working on a new tablet that has a 7.85-inch screen and comes with an “retina iPad” resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. The price is expected to be around US$160. Guess what? Foxconn, the Chinese company that helps Apple manufacture most products, is helping Xiaomi to produce this tablet.
