A new blog theme for a brand new year.

wordpress.com has just release some exciting new themes. One of them – imbalance 2 caught my eyes and since the year is coming to an end.  I am thinking, maybe it’s time for a change in blog theme for the brand new year.

Here is my trusty twenty-ten wordpress theme that I have been using since the start of my active blogging.

However, changing the theme makes me worried that it will affect my readership and the experience. Many bloggers worried about their themes as well because it is the first thing that people notice when visiting the site.

Content is king on the Web but your theme also makes a big impression. A professional, appropriate theme can put your content in the right context and start the reader off with a good impression that stays with them as they read on. A bad theme can be overcome with great content, but it acts as a weight on your writing in the eyes of your readers. – http://www.bloggingtips.com/

Here is also a preview of what my blog looks like with the new theme.

So friends, I need your feedbacks. What do you think of the current theme? Good? Bad? Do you think the blog needs a fresh new theme? 😀

Updates: 19 Dec 2011

Decided to go with Theme (Twenty Eleven), very much similar to Twenty Ten but offers more customization for post formats and I also remove some widgets. What do you think?

  1. I have just converted to the Imbalance 2 theme as well, and am not entirely sure about it! I like the fact that a passing viewer can see a selection of different posts at once, without having to scroll way down the page. I found your blog by searching for the Imbalance theme, and would probably not bother delving deeper in the site unless I saw a couple of intriguing posts right there in full view on the home page. If there was only one post visible at a time (like most Themes) and it didn’t strike my fancy, I would not stay long. So I think this theme gives you a better chance of keeping a visitor.
I have been adding featured images to all my recent posts, but unfortunately those featured photos do not appear on the actual post page. So I find myself repeating the photo in the post itself, or uploading another similar one. There is a lot of white space in the header, which is useable only if you have enough Pages to go to 2 columns. The mouse-over highlighting of posts looks flashy, but might seem rather busy. I’d be happy to get any feedback you might have on mine.

    1. Hi,

Thanks for the comment. I just visited your blog and with the array of post feature on the homepage, I can certainly chose what I am interested in to read. For example. I particularly like your post on Australia budget travel. This also makes me wanting to change my theme even more but like you mentioned the header is quite wide, kind of blank on the top.

As for the feature image, I am sure you have taken huge effort to make the changes. And I agree with you if the theme could draw the first image that we place in the blog as feature image, this will certainly save us lots of time.

      Cheers

    2. Hi

I just did choose a new theme for my blog – Twenty Eleven. I like to ask for you opinions on the widgets. Do you find that I have too many widgets?

      Cheers
      Bryan
